Player Update

Two highly regarded FUTSOC USA ENIGMA players – C.J. Phelps (U19 US National Team) and Duran Mitchell (U20 Bahamian National Team) – have been cited by ESPN on their ESPN Rise magazine as two of the most talented upcoming players in the US.

Few states but lots of talent

Only eight states offer high school soccer in the winter, but there's certainly no shortage of talent as evidence by the ESPNRISE.com Winter All-America squad.

Six of the 12 first-team players also are members on the U.S. Soccer under-18 national team. This year's All-America squad features eight players who led their teams to section or state titles.

Every first-teamer has signed with or is being pursued by NCAA Division I programs, and one player is entertaining turning pro instead of attending college. California leads the way with 18 players selected to the three teams, followed by Texas with nine and Florida with seven.

First Team Notes:

Dakota Collins, Great Oak (Temecula, Calif.): The UCLA signee has emerged as one of the great finishers in Southern California. Collins scored three goals in his final high school match, leading Great Oak to the CIF-Southern Section Division III title. He recently led his club team to the National Cup title.

Ben Hill, Coppell (Texas): Hill scored 17 goals and assisted on eight others while earning district player of the year honors. Hill, a Dallas Morning News first-team and all-state honoree, has signed with Southern Methodist University.

Hasani Sinclair, American Heritage (Delray, Fla.): Sinclair is one of the most explosive offensive talents in the U.S. The U.S. Soccer under-18 national team member scored 47 goals and had 14 assists while leading his high school team to a state title and a FAB 50 Top 20 final ranking. Sinclair signed with South Florida.

Jose Altamirano, Southwest (San Diego, Calif.): Altamirano, a U.S. under-18 national team member, scored 26 goals and had eight assists to earn section player of the year honors. Altamirano has signed with San Diego State.

Paul Islas, Bullard (Fresno, Calif.): The two-time Fresno Bee Player of the Year helped Bullard reach the CIF Southern Regional final. He scored 20 goals as a senior and ended his career with 92 goals. Islas is a U.S. under-18 national team member. He has signed with Cal-Poly.

Patrick Mullins, Jesuit (New Orleans, La.): Mullins was named the New Orleans Picayune All-Metro Player of the Year after helping New Orleans Jesuit to an undefeated state title. Mullins is a top Class of 2009 prospect and has verbally committed to defending NCAA champion Maryland.

C.J. Phelps, Boca Raton (Fla.): Phelps was named the Palm Beach Post Big School Player of the Year after leading Boca Raton to a Class 6A runner-up finish. Phelps, a U.S. under-18 national team member, scored 18 goals and had 18 assists. Phelps is entertaining turning pro instead of attending college.

Dillon Powers, Plano (Texas): Power was named the Dallas Morning News Player of the Year after helping Plano to a Texas 5A state title. The Notre Dame signee had 16 goals and 20 assists. He is a U.S. under-18 national team member.

Dominic Dailey, De La Salle (Concord, Calif.): Dailey was named the Contra Costa Times Player of the Year after leading De La Salle to a section title and a FAB 50 No. 2 final ranking. Dailey anchored a defense that allowed only 12 goals in 25 matches.

Jacob Kaiser, El Toro (Lake Forest, Calif.): The Orange County Register Player of the Year. Kaiser was a defensive specialist who moved to midfield for the postseason and scored four goals in the team's final three matches, including the match-winner in a 1-0 CIF Southern Section Division I title over Millikan.

Andrew Quintana, Florida Christian (Miami, Fla.): Quintana is a U.S. under-18 national team member. Although primarily a defender in high school, he found his way into the attack and scored 21 goals while earning Miami small-school first-team honors.

Keon Parsa, El Camino Real (Woodland Hills, Calif.): Parsa is among the nation's Top 10 Class of 2009 goalkeeper prospects. He returned from a year in Spain to play for El Camino Real, where he posted 13 shutouts and led the squad to CIF-LA and CIF-Southern Region titles. Parsa was an ESP participant last summer.

Coach: Richard Hart, Holland Hall (Tulsa, Okla.): Hart guided Holland Hall to its second straight SPC Division I title, and in the process the team became the first Southwest Preparatory Conference team to crack the FAB 50 rankings. Holland Hall's lineup featured four NCAA Division I signees, and the team's 19-0-1 season pushed its undefeated streak to 31 matches.
