FUTSOC FUTALAN participated in the 2016 NSU 5v5 CUP, reaching the Championship Final match against a tough Team Boca squad.
Opening the match with a beautiful outside shot from Agustin Gonzalez, and then another follow-up goal seven minutes later, FUTSOC jumped ahead and took the match to the tougher, older opponent. Gradually, the momentum shifted with unlucky plays and some careless errors, giving up four goals during the remainder of the half. With the remainder of the match a veritable battle, FUTSOC inched back to within one score, closing the gap to 3::4 on a close goal to the lower left post by Rafael Ferrer. With five minutes remaining, FUTSOC went on full attack taking full control of the match and with a minutes remaining, a scramble in fornt of the opponents goals, only yielded three posts on back to back shots. We fell short despite the barrage of shots, leaving the final score at 3::4 against our most worthy opponents.
During group play, our boys won two back to back matches, by the scores of 4::1 and 9::1, after an initial defeat of 4::6 to the other finalist in opening play. This set the tone for the re-match to ensue.
This was a spectacular match in which our young U14 boys played the finest small field match ever played by a FUTSOC team of any age group. Congratulations boys and Coaches, for the fine efforts and sportsmanchip displayed during the entire tournamnt!
Also noteworthy, our U15 FUTSOC FUTALAN boys played at the event, regretably paired with teams that were much older (U18) and displayed poor sportsmanship against our much younger squad in a high school bracket that was not properly balanced. The results were three consecutive losses, although they presented truly invaluable experience for the young men! Better luck next year and lets learn from this experience.
