Red Devils

The 2010 edition of the FUTSOC Futsal Indoor Soccer League concluded yesterday with a playoff series which will be long remembered after the season ends. The highly heralded powerhouse squad of Team Red Devils, overcame a very difficult first half to pull out an 8-7 victory in the championship match over a very tenacious Team Fiera FC opponent. Spurred by league leading scorer Honorino Landa (35 goals) - who added four (4) brilliant goals in the final match, outshined a superb five (5) goal performance by the worthy opponent's Jimmy Monsalves, allowing them to walk off with the trophy and completing a perfect 8-0-0 season. Team Red Devils was lead by the outstanding goalkeeping by the great Pedro Batista - who also was named league MVP, winning the prestigious Golden Ball, extremely tough defenders Tommy Aguayo and Diego Figueroa (absent for the final), 3rd league leading scorer Andrea Lopera, and a very talented and tough group of Jose Gonzalez, Orlando Zuluaga, Diego Rios, Victor Paula, and Dario Caldas.

A quarterfinals session gave us an unexpected upset take place, as Team Fernando surprised all with a season turnaround thrashing of 10-3 over a very tough and talented Ecuador squad. Accompanying this fine team to the semi-finals were the teams of FC Fiera (11-3 winners over FDC Weston, the league's winner of the FAIR PLAY AWARD), Jogo Feito (16-12 winners over a defiant Team Douglas), and lastly, eventual champion team Red Devils.

A most noteworthy mention goes out to the FDC Weston Heat (FAIR PLAY AWARD winners this season) and all its players who consistently demonstrated the true ideals of excellent sportsmanship, clean play (least number of fouls in a season with only 25 fouls) and general solid performances, upholding to the highest level the very essence of what competitive play should be at any level. Sincerest appreciation and congratulations to this fine and worthy team and group of quality men. Runner-up for this award was the Champion team Red Devils, demonstrating that quality talent and quality fair play can form part of one same squad.

To all remaining participants, thank you for your commitment to our young league, which concludes only its second season. My extreme gratitude for your high level of play, consistent respect of the Laws of the Game, your adherence to our own complementary rules and in general, your keeping on schedule every session this season. You are to all be sincerely commended and we look forward to having you back even stronger for next season!
