The U23 FUTSOC USA ENIGMA National Select squad attended the FIFA / USASA National Championships in Overland Park, Kansas as one of eight (8) finalists from around the U.S. representing the State of Florida as state champion and Region III as Region co-champion. This superb squad advanced to the nationals with a team comprised of some of the best talent FUTSOC USA has ever developed along with the addition of some other top level players from the South Florida area.
Ending group play with a 1-1-1 record against some of the finest competition in the country (over 300 teams were involved originally from all over the U.S.), FUTSOC USA ENIGMA completely outplayed and controlled possession time against every single opponent it faced, and was generally regarded by all present, as the finest, classiest, most sporting team at the tournament. We certainly became a fan favorite with our very traditional Latin American possession style of play, which frustrated our most worthy opponents. With a few breaks and having possibly overcome some untimely injuries to some key players at the event, we may have had even greater success..however, we are most happy with the results and the overall experience!
In the end, the team lost to eventual champion Chicago Fire by a score of 2-0, finishing in 4th place in the nation. This experience was exceptional in every regard - from facing some of the best teams in the nation, and playing at one of the absolute finest pure soccer venues in the world at Overland Park Soccer Complex, to the organization and management of the event by the USASA. This was a first class event which we hope to begin preparing for to qualify once again as it is held in Phoenix, Arizona next year.
Our sincerest congratulations go out to this exceptional squad, one of the absolute finest teams ever assembled in youth soccer in Florida.
