This Saturday, January 17th, the U20 Haitian Women’s National Team and staff visited South Florida, and FUTSOC were contacted in order to welcome them and serve as one of several hosts during this latest stay. Coming off a greatly improved strong showing at CONCACAF Qualifiers, and seeking to continue to improve the national side, they requested a joint practice session and scrimmage, in order to evaluate new members to be considered for the squad.
The training plan – held at the wonderful Central Broward Regional Park in Lauderhill, Florida, was a great success, as our players intermingled socially, competed in a very sporting manner, exchanged pleasantries and cultivated a wonderful cultural exchange, which is anticipated, will have long-standing effects between our clubs and our countries. In representing our club, and the U.S., our team performed with class, respect, graciousness and humility, in providing our guests with the necessary competiveness to attain their stated objectives. In closing, their coaches were presented with an original FUTSOC jersey, signed by all our players and coaches, as a memento of this special occasion!
This evening resulted in an excellent exchange between both staffs, in order to set the foundation for this and future exchanges and visits between both groups. In March, it is expected that they return along with the U20 MNT, at which time we will engage in further joint cooperation efforts. Contemplated among the future endeavors, are the greatly required fundraising events which would allow the National Federation to cover glaring budget deficits, visits to Haiti by our squad in order to not only play but also participate in cooperative support missions, assistance in coordinating future evaluation events and much, much more.
We wish to thank our newly found friends from the Caribbean…our friends from Haiti, our sporting friends from the Haitian National Football Federation, their players, their staff of coaches, assistants, trainers and all others visiting members, for this exceptional opportunity to host you!
In closing, we wish to invite all to help in rebuilding women’s soccer in Haiti, by considering any size donations on their site. Remember that soccer serves as a platform for the redevelopment of this proud nation savagely torn by a most destructive earthquake years ago and yearly devastating storm activity, which sets the attained progress back every year. By assisting in the development of women’s soccer in Haiti, we not only provide a much needed inspiration to the self-esteem of players, but also provide an almost direct support to the needs of their families as well. A proud nation of wonderful people, silently await continued support from people, businesses and governments the world over, in order to assist them to climb out of the depths of despair and hopelessness,…and the beautiful game serves one overwhelmingly important avenue in shining the light on that path!
